Plate Bracers

Bracers are the most basic armor piece, which makes them a great starting point when you’re putting a character together. They come in many sizes and styles, so you have plenty of options depending on the archetype you want to play, or the event you’re dressing for. Besides offering real protection, for LARP for example, you can also wear them simply to help define your role. And with just this part of the armor, your mobility and comfort are still guaranteed. Throughout history, bracers have been one of the most basic and essential pieces of armor for any warrior. If an arm was injured in battle, it could mean not being able to keep swinging a weapon, continue fighting, or even defend yourself. For a soldier, metal bracers didn’t just protect against blows and cuts, they could also become a weapon in close combat.

Over time, bracers stopped being only functional and started to reflect status, experience, or loyalty, depending on how elaborate or decorated they were. The same idea applies in fantasy. Simple designs fit battle-worn mercenaries or daring adventurers, while more refined or ornate bracers help set apart noble knights, elite guards, or legendary warriors.

Besides steel, armor can be made from other materials. That variety gives you more freedom when shaping the character you want. These alternative materials can be found across the same parts already mentioned: bracers, greaves, gorgets, pauldrons, cuirasses, tassets, and even helmets.

• Steel: If you choose steel for your armor, the result feels more imposing and very realistic. It works especially well for well-known knights, noble guards, veteran warriors, and legendary heroes.
• Leather: A particularly comfortable and versatile material. Leather armor can be simple and basic, but you can also find highly detailed, refined, and complex pieces. Compared to steel, the main difference is that leather is lighter and more flexible. It’s a strong fit for adventurers, outlaws, rogues, thieves, pirates, rangers, archers, elves, or scouts. • PU: You can also find armor made from polyurethane (PU). It looks like steel but without some of the drawbacks, especially the weight. It’s lighter than steel while still being rigid, and because it’s PU, the design can be more detailed and complex than steel.

Before choosing your bracers, get ready the way any adventurer would before setting off. Comfort is key. If a piece pinches or rubs constantly, you’ll end up taking it off, and that ruins both protection and the consistency of your character. To avoid that, keep a few basics in mind.

Look for a secure but comfortable fit: The pieces should stay in place without squeezing or restricting movement.

Place the straps correctly: If they sit in the wrong spot, they can cause chafing or make the armor shift and loosen with use.

Make sure each piece works with the rest of your kit: This helps prevent pieces from bumping into each other or limiting movement in an awkward way.

Choose the right style: Simple models work better for low-profile characters, while more elaborate designs stand out for roles with more presence or higher status.
