You can find simple helmets that work for a soldier or an adventurer, and also more elaborate, full-coverage designs. The helmet you choose is also key for conveying the period you want to set the story in.
Beyond the era, a helmet can also help place your character in a specific culture or region, since different military looks hint at where they come from. You can recreate Viking, Roman, medieval European, or Renaissance vibes, because each culture and period has very distinctive helmet designs. That’s why the helmet is such an important piece when building a character.
Helmets often come in sizes. They may also include chin straps and internal fitting systems to help the helmet sit correctly and prevent it from shifting. These features vary depending on the design. In the same way, a helmet that only covers the forehead or the top of the head is lighter, but it can move more than a full-coverage helmet.
